It is the mission of the NHRA to present our area HR and business professionals with quality programming throughout the year. This means that we provide meaningful education to our members on a monthly basis and provide opportunities for members to attend sessions granting professional re-certification credits.

NHRA Awarded Prestigious Status of
SHRM Learning System Champion
The NHRA has been awarded prestigious recognition given by the Society for Human Resource Management. The SHRM Learning System Champion Award was earned by the NHRA for the groups outstanding efforts of encouraging and fostering development of the HR profession to it's members who have gained SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification.
Laurie Pinther Receives
2016 NHRA Leadership in Human Resources Award
Congratulations is in order for Laurie Pinther, the 2016 recipient of the NHRA leadership in HR Award. Laurie’s volunteering resume is impressive. She’s served in the At Large, Treasurer, Treasurer-Assistant, Programs Director, President, and Past President roles on the NHRA Board. She’s also chaired our Engagement Committee over the past two years, served as a mentor in our College Mentorship Program, and served as the Minnesota SHRM State Council Certifications Director for the past three. Laurie cites the professional growth opportunities and chance to give back in the HR community she works in as motivation for the work she’s done and continues to do. Her volunteerism goes beyond the HR profession when she’s serving as a youth mentor through Mentor Duluth.
Our organization, region, state, and the HR profession are lucky to have Laurie. The award was presented to Laurie at the NHRA Member Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday, August 9th.
Northland Human Resource Professionals Hit the Links to Raise Funds for Local Food Bank
The Northland Human Resources Association's 12th Annual Golf Scramble/Fundraiser was held on July 11, 2016 at the Proctor Golf Club (in beautiful downtown Proctor, Minnesota). NHRA is an affiliate of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Thirty two players participated in this year's event. This is the first time in the Tourney’s twelve year history that the weather got the best of this group. Record breaking rainfalls and thunderstorms made this year’s event prohibitive (outdoors) for safety and comfort reasons. But as a testimony to this hearty group… ALL registrants showed up willing and able to play some indoor activities, to take part in good food and networking, and to have a chance to win some of the great door prizes provided by this year’s event sponsors.
Each year, the NHRA Board of Directors chooses a non profit in the region as a recipient of the tourney benefits. Ten hole sponsors at $50 each (please see the list of employers and association's who sponsored holes below) helped in the cause and had their name displayed at the golf course in recognition. Also, door prizes were contributed by friends and affiliates of NHRA and golfing participants bought raffle tickets (lots of them!!) for an opportunity to win these prizes. The total funds contributed, which will be forwarded to Second Harvest Food Bank, was over $1400! Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank’s mission is to feed Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin’s hungry by rescuing and distributing food and engaging our region in the fight against hunger. Second Harvest has already thanked the NHRA organization for the generous donation. Second Harvest has been the recipient of this NHRA fun(d)raiser since 2010 .
The trophy awarded teams were determined on the Proctor Clubhouse indoor carpeting. The winning team included Jennie Sage (AAR), Kathy Chalupsky (former NHRA President and tourney regular), and Maria Wernimont (AMSOIL and NHRA Board Member). Jennie made the qualifying putt. Second place winners were Jon Nelson, Patty Johnson, Terri McGillvrey, Tuyet Roveng, and Kim Hanson from Residential Services Inc. Kim had the qualifying putt from her group. The finals were a timed relay race carrying a golf ball on a tee and passing it off successfully to your teammate. Like HR work, it included precision, talent, teamwork, and planning.
All participants were thanked by Tournament Coordinator Steve Korby (Enbridge Energy & NHRA Board Member) for their support of this great--and growing--event. This is the largest number of participants to date (tied the record).The Proctor Golf Club was also thanked for being an extremely cooperative and generous host and for cooking brats and burgers on the grill for hungry participants. The Thirteenth Annual event is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Monday, July 17, 2017. Hope you can join us!
