Personality disorders are one of the most common mental disorders affecting nearly 10% of adults. A combination of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy constitute the “Dark Triad” and are particularly problematic in organizations. Persons with these traits tend to have less empathy, are more manipulative and deceptive, self-serving, and sometimes bullying and predatory. Such behaviors damage morale, cause conflict, increase turnover, and may involve liability. This presentation describes the Dark Triad, how they impact the workplace, their employment rights, and how such behavior can be managed.
