College Mentorship Program

NHRA is currently looking for Mentors to help support the College Mentorship Program.

What is the College Mentorship Program? It connects college students pursing a degree in Human Resource (HR) with HR professionals in the community.

What is the purpose? Provide students with HR experience out of the classroom, as well as networking experience, through a guided mentorship. Each student is matched with a mentor based on HR areas of interest. Being a mentor also helps one see their own gifts, learn new things, and possibly get some extra work done!

What is the expectation: Mentors are asked to spend at minimum 1-2 hours a month between February – May with the mentee assigned to them. Actives may include but are not limited to; job shadowing, reviewing resumes, mock interviewing, attending a job fair, attending an NHRA/educational meeting, or other special projects/tasks.

Are you interested in making a difference?

Please email Tara Posterick (College Relations Director) or call her at (218) 491-7687.

Deadline to sign up is Jan 6th, 2016
We also ask that you are a current NHRA member

This program is in its 4th successful year and we are excited to continue to offer such a value program to the young professionals in our community!

NHRA Professionals Hit the Links to Raise Funds for Food Bank

Steve Korby 7/31/15

The Northland Human Resources Association's 11th Annual Golf Scramble/Fundraiser was held on July 13, 2015 at the beautiful Proctor Golf Club (in downtown Proctor, Minnesota). NHRA is an affiliate of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Twenty four players participated in this year's event. Six team's took on the challenge of the par thirty three (33) Proctor links. The weather was a little nerve wracking but it turned out to be a beautiful day with temp's in the lower 80's and fairly low humidity...... a “Chamber of Commerce day”. The scores were very impressive as well!

Each year, the NHRA Board of Directors chooses a non profit in the region as a recipient of the tourney benefits. Six hole sponsors at $50 each (please see the list of employers and association's who sponsored holes below) helped in the cause and had their name displayed at the golf course in recognition. Also, door prizes were contributed by friends and affiliates of NHRA (again, refer to list below) and golfing participants bought raffle tickets for an opportunity to win these prizes. The total funds contributed, which will be forwarded to Second Harvest Food Bank, was over $800!  Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank’s mission is to feed Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin’s hungry by rescuing and distributing food and engaging our region in the fight against hunger. Second Harvest has already thanked the NHRA organization for the generous donation. Second Harvest has been the recipient of this NHRA fun(d)raiser since 2010.

The triumphant team shot a score of 30. The winners included Steve Korby of Enbridge Energy in Duluth, Dave Purdy from Physio Controls (Duluth Tech Center), and Mark Pendleton and Penny Youngberg from ME Global in Duluth.  Second place winners were Shawn Burns and Molly Devine-Webb from St. Luke’s and Brandon Kime and Mike Lang from Essentia Health (they had a score of 31). Winner of the men's long drive contest was Zac Tuominen and the closest to the pin went to Mike Lang . The Long Drive for Women was won by Kim Hanson…..and was it LONG! Shawn Burns won a great prize for having the longest putt on hole #2. Yuyet Vu won a prize for being the closest to the pin on #9 in two….it went in!

All participants were thanked by Tournament Coordinator Steve Korby (Enbridge Energy & NHRA Board Member) for their support of this great--and growing--event. The Proctor Golf Club was also thanked for being an extremely cooperative and generous host (and providing such great weather) and for cooking brats and burgers on the grill for hungry participants. The Twelfth Annual event is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Monday, July 11, 2016. Hope you can join us!
