College Mentorship Program - Make a Difference!

What is the College Mentorship Program? The Northland SHRM Mentor Program connects Human Resource Management (and other related degrees) students from the University of Minnesota Duluth and surrounding institutions with local HR professionals.

What is the purpose? The program is designed to help students develop professional networks, gain practical career insights, and discover meaningful career opportunities within the Duluth-Superior region. By fostering relationships between emerging and experienced professionals, the program supports student success while helping local employers cultivate the next generation of HR leaders in the Northland. Each student is matched with a mentor based on HR areas of interest and career goals.

What is the expectation: Following the introduction, mentor-mentee pairs will coordinate and lead their meetings independently throughout the program. The program typically includes a group kick-off event in early October and a celebration event in early May to recognize participants and reflect on their experience. Mentors and students are encouraged to meet at least once per month. Actives may include but are not limited to; job shadowing, reviewing resumes, mock interviewing, attending a job fair, attending an NHRA/educational meeting, career goal setting, HR career path exploration, certification prep or other special projects.
